Signs on 444 Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) Property:

A quick reminder about TDOT’s sign policy.

  1. Political Signs:  State Law and TDOT do not authorize the placement of campaign advertising on State Highway right-of-way.  However, as a practice TDOT will not remove signs unless the sign blocks an intersection sight distance – basically a safety issue.  Therefore, the Highway Advisory Committee would recommend restraint on placing political signs for both aesthetics and reducing potential safety issues on the Tellico Village Parkway or other State roads.   After the conclusion of a primary, general, or special election, political signs, posters, or placards which have been placed on highway rights-of-way shall be removed within a reasonable period of time following the election, not to exceed three (3) weeks.  Any signs not removed after three weeks will be removed by TDOT.
  2. All Other Signs:  TDOT has a zero-tolerance policy for all other signs placed on State Highway right-of way – Tellico Village Parkway – and therefore subject to TDOT removal.
